.gov Community Site
Description: A project for the South Australian Parliament. The brief requested development of a Wordpress website for community education and engagement. Among the features were customised events management, document resource libraries, complex design concepts requiring advanced CSS, custom blocks for the Gutenberg framework, extensive content filtering as well as the more usual news and custom taxonomies.
Budget: 63 hours
How it Went
Platform
WordPress with plugins for events, custom fields, filtering
Design
Web design was supplied as an InDesign PDF showing desktop and mobile screens. Menu design was a complex beast, emulating a phone style sliding submenus.
Code
I used my own starter theme, Nova which is (now) loosely based on Underscores. The SlickSlider script was incorporated into the theme for animated sliders. All CSS was handwritten coming in at just under 2200 lines. Numerous custom blocks were created as components for customer ease of use.
Outcome
The project was completed on time, and the budget was met. My agency client has received compliments for the site speed, the attention to detail for admin and editor interfaces and complexity made easy.
